Memorial of the Memory of Victims of Nuclear Catastrophes was installed in Sochi Park on Tambov Embankment on April 26, 2011, on the 25th anniversary of the tragedy at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. As the monument was conceived by the authors of the project, the sculptors M. Salychev and N. Tsitsin, two granite slabs of the monument with a ball of red granite in the middle symbolize the world torn by the mighty uncontrolled energy of the atomic nucleus. The monument commemorates the feat of more than 2, 5 thousand inhabitants of the region who took part in the liquidation of the consequences of the accident.
