The verst column at the Main post office - a commemorative sign - a quadrilateral stele in a black and white slanting strip depicting the 18th century verst column. with the inscription "448 miles to Moscow" depicts "zero verst" of postal routes from Tambov to Moscow and St. Petersburg. It was installed as a token of the 220th anniversary of the Tambov mail - in this place in 1786 under the governor GR Derzhavin the first post office with stables for postal triplets was built - almost immediately after St. Petersburg.
