Located on the high steep bank of the Kremlin or Voevodova Mountain, the Oka Garden has seen such species that even the seven hills of Moscow would be enviable. The ancient inhabitants of Murom once circled round the pagan goddesses and worshiped pagan deities, after all the world erected the wooden fortifications of the Kremlin, then they dismantled them at the will of Catherine II and, dressed up in the fashion of the 19th century, went for a walk around the park, beautifully defeated at the will of Prince Trubetskoi. In a word, the fate of this green hill is rich, enviable.
And it all began simply: long ago on the territory of the present Oka garden there was an ancient fortress called Old High Hail. Here stood a beautiful wooden chopped Murom Kremlin, which was dismantled for dilapidation even under Catherine the Great in the 18th century.
Since then, this picturesque place was abandoned until Prince Ivan Alexandrovich Trubetskoi in 1852 instructed to break near the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin of the city boulevard. Here is what he wrote about this gift to Murom Bezrukov:
Park and the truth was a success: two alleys of lindens and elm trees were planted here, which led to a wooden gazebo with a birch roof. Walking in the shade of fragrant limes was loved not only by the highest light of Murom, but also by all the townspeople, finding a fertile spring in the summer, and meeting friends in winter and exchanging news on the traditional promenade.
In the late 50s of the 20th century Oksky Garden turned into a recreation park, a cathedral square was added to it, a dance floor was built. Of course, today, from the original park, which was defeated in 1852, only the age-old elms remained. However, this is still one of the most beautiful places in the city - a garden high above the river on the southern edge of the Kremlin mountain.
Here it is worth to visit at least for the sake of an amazing view of the beautiful Oka and the Zaoksky distances. But if tourists were lucky enough to bring a child to Murom for rest, who "always rushes somewhere and is madly upset if something in the world suddenly happens without him", then they are straight to the Oksky garden. After all, you can ride a Ferris wheel, a chain carousel and other attractions, eat ice cream and just diversify your leisure time and a little distraction from the abundance of museums and monasteries of this glorious ancient city of Murom.
