The origin of the name
The name of the city comes from the creek of Kur, which flows into the Tuskar river. According to legend, the creek of Cours in the olden days was a full-flowing and navigable river, which later became shallow. In the place where Kur is currently flowing, on both sides of the hill, where Pushkarnaya, Officerskaya and Kazatskaya streets are currently located. Perhaps this is the place where the Cours once flowed. The same relief is visible along the whole length of the river.
By the way, the word "chickens" in translation from the Old Norse language means "settlement". Taking into account the fact that Kursk appeared on the way from the "Varangians to the Greeks", it can be said that the Vikings or Vikings founded the settlement or gave it a name.
