Rizopolozhensky Monastery in Suzdal is considered one of the oldest, erected in the times of Ancient Rus. According to historians, it was founded in 1207, before the original buildings of the Monastery of Risopolozheny were not reached, but the buildings dating back to the 16th century were perfectly preserved.
The main object of the monastery, which you can visit today, is the majestic Risopolozhsky Cathedral. Not far from the three-domed church stands the Reverend belfry. A 72-meter tower with bells was built right after the victory over Napoleon's troops in 1812. During the tour of the Rizopolozhensky monastery in Suzdal, you can also see parts of the Sretensky refectory that was once built from a brick.
From the history of the monastery it is known that there was another monastery - Troitsky. It was intended for married, but single women and therefore was called a widow. Until now, unfortunately, only the Holy Gates of the monastery have reached, since it was blown up in the 1930s.
In the Soviet era, the Risopolozhsky Monastery, like many Orthodox shrines, was closed. In its premises there was a power station. The activities of the monastery resumed only at the end of the 90s.
