There are many religious sites in Suzdal, but the Pokrovsky Monastery deserves to visit it . The cloister built in the 14th century still contains many secrets and mysteries . Let's start with the fact that it was not an ordinary monastery, but a place of lifelong exile for women from high society . So, the Pokrovsky monastery became a real prison for many princes and queens known in Russia . Moreover, unfortunate women were exiled here not for some serious acts, but simply to get rid of . @ For the forced nuns wooden cells were built here, and since their fate was sealed, there was an underground crypt for the burial of the unfortunate in the monastery .

But if we move away from the sad historical facts, now the Pokrovsky Monastery is, of course, not the place of exile, but the traditional operating women's abode. Moreover, it is very beautiful. The main building of the monastery ensemble is the snow-white three-headed Cathedral of the Intercession, to which the no less stately bell tower belongs. Immediately there are the Holy Gates, the refectory, the farm buildings and the so-called prikaznaya hut. In the latter, by the way, you can see the punishment cell, where the women who came to the monastery were sometimes held.

It is worth mentioning that the monastic life in the Suzdal monastery was revived not so long ago, namely in 1992. Prior to this, the Pokrovsky Monastery housed ... a hotel complex with a bar and a concert hall

Now the cathedral and other objects of the Intercession Monastery are open for visiting tourists except for the cells of female attendants. The monastery is open for pilgrims and tourists every day from 10.00 to 18.00, except Wednesday, Thursday and last Friday of the month.
