Plaine Square (which, in fact, means "square") is located to the south-west of the main station, if you go along Herengracht. This is one of the most elegant squares in the center of The Hague. It is located directly at Binnenhof and is built up with historical government buildings with three of four sides. On Plain is a wonderful art gallery "Mauritshuis", and in the center of the square in 1848 was installed a statue of Wilhelm of Orange.
Northern Plaine is filled with bars and cafes that open up lively terraces in the summer. Cafes are quite popular among politicians working in the neighborhood, and even the prime minister often sits here with his pint. Funny, this same square often serves as a place for anti-government demonstrations
The view of the present Plain reflects two aspects of the city's history: history and novelty . Cute two-three-story mansions, traditionally bright, and a sculpture on a high pedestal contrasts three narrow and long skyscrapers in the background, painted in the colors of the national flag.
