Calangute (Calangute) - a small town on the northern coast of Goa, in the past the local "capital" of the hippies, perhaps, one of the most popular resorts of the state. The local beach can not be called the best, and many will find it too crowded and noisy, but tourists will not have problems with accommodation and food.

Fans of a quiet past are unlikely to find a place on Calangute beach . Fussy merchants, Indians , large companies standing at the very edge of the water, numerous tourists from different countries, a huge number of coastal cafes and other "delights" of the developed tourism industry, including littered sand and turbid water, cause very little positive emotions . The way out is to avoid going to the sea at "peak hours" . If you come to the beach early in the morning and do not show up there during holidays and weekends, then the feeling of Babel's confusion will not be .

The main advantage of Calangute is the proximity of others , less densely populated beaches, where the tourist infrastructure is represented by a few bungalows without amenities and small guest houses, and a sufficiently developed for India transport connection with the towns of the northern coast . Hope for a high level of hotel service is not worth . Calangute is one of the oldest places for recreation, whose wide coastal line was actually the first where foreign tourists appeared in the 1960s, and the constant increase in the standard of living is not included in the tasks of the local administration .

How to get to Calangute

From Moscow flights of the companies "Aeroflot" and "Transaero" arrive to the airport "Dabolim" (Dabolim Airport), located in the homonymous village in Goa. From there to the resort - about an hour's drive (if you get by public transport, the time on the road increases significantly because of the transplants).

By taxi

The most convenient way to get from the airport to Calangute is by taxi. The cost of such a trip is about 900 INR. Order a taxi is quite simple. At the exit from the airport there are special racks responsible for calling a public taxi with fixed rates. There you can also find a stand where all prices are indicated in advance. Having paid for the trip and having received the corresponding receipt from one of the staff behind the counter, the passenger goes with her to the car and gets to the right place.

By bus

There are several ways to get there by public transport to the resort. The only thing that unites them is numerous transplantations and cheapness in comparison with a taxi ride. The cost of one trip varies from 5 to 20 INR. In the afternoon, buses go half empty. "Rush hours" - early morning and evening

The first way is to cross the road and catch the bus to the intersection bearing the name of the famous pioneer, Vasco da Gama . The journey time to the destination is about 10 minutes . Next, leaving at the bus stop (landmark - bus station) next to the market, find transport to Panaji .It will have to be reached by a shuttle or express train, which differs from the usual buses by the absence of stops . Travel time - about half an hour . The last one can be reached directly to Calangute or go to Mapusa, from which it is already possible to get to the beach . Calangute is 13 km from Panaji and 8 from Mapusa .

Indian buses do not have numbers. The maximum that can be found is the names of settlements-stops. However, unfortunately, they are rarely duplicated by English-language counterparts. So it is advisable to specify the route and stops at the driver

The second way is all the same, but before the intersection of Vasco da Gama you go on foot or take a taxi

By train

The nearest railway station is located in Tivim, (~ 200 INR)

Calangute Climate

The local climate differs little from any other place in Goa. The high season begins in November and ends in March. This is due to several factors: a temperature of about + 33 ° C, a lack of high humidity and rain. The latter begin at the end of May and ends in October. Tourist crowds are flooding Goa in December-January: the Indian weather by the beginning of the winter becomes the most comfortable for Europeans. During this period, the highest prices for housing, food and any tourist services

The local beach, which is called "The Queen of Goa beaches", stretches from north to south from Bagi to Candolim . The site that occupies Kalangut is famous for its huge number of water attractions

Along the whole beach a lot of sun beds are scattered, which can be used free of charge if you buy something at the nearest bar.
When arriving in another country, some "surprises" of the local flora and fauna . The Indian Ocean, to which the Arabian Sea, which is washing Goa, is considered a happy owner of a rich underwater world, whose representatives are not always happy with the person . Of course, stories about the giant scouts that hunt people near the shore are somewhat exaggerated . However, skates and sea snakes in the waters of Goa live . Particularly common, yet poisonous, the last . Some of the snakes belonging to this species too short to bite a person, and they only attack when hunting for shellfish or great danger to life . However, this does not negate the careful and careful treatment of reptiles .

Good restaurants: Tibetan Kitchen, Bella Ciao (Italian cuisine, located at the Hotel La Calypso Hotels), O'Coqueiro, Mirabai Goan Village (the best restaurant with traditional cuisine), Souza Lobo (beach cafe with good fish dishes), After Seven (managed by Leo, who speaks four languages, travels the world and can tell a lot of entertaining stories), Casa Andre's, Bob's Inn and Mooncrest on the Waves.
