There are many medieval attractions on the Costa Brava, but one of the most popular is the castle of Sant Joan, located in the resort of Lloret de Mar. The fortress was built in the 11th century and was used as a protective structure up to the 17th and 18th centuries.
Sant Joan Castle is well preserved to this day, despite the trials that fell to his lot. The fortress was once subjected to a cannon attack, severe storms and several earthquakes

To get to the castle of Sant Joan, you need to overcome a decent climb up the hill, as the fortress stands on top of a cliff. This can be done both by car and by bike. But on the stairs leading directly to the fortress, you have to climb on foot. But, believe me, such an active walk is worth the effort. The castle of Sant Joan offers stunning views of the beaches, the resort of Lloret de Mar and, of course, the endless blue sea.
Sant Joan Castle is open for visits every day, except Monday, from 10.00 to 20.00. The entrance to this Costa Brava site costs 3 EUR per person (October 2013). Photographing and video shooting of the castle of Sant Joan is free, there is no additional charge for this.
