There are enough green spaces and squares in Saransk, but the park of culture and recreation named after Pushkin is perhaps the most beloved place of the townspeople . The history of the park began in the 19th century, when the city the management decided to put it on the Uspenskaya Square where the church of the same name was located, the trees . This area was otherwise called Nizhny Bazarnaya, as markets were built on it, and the vendors' shops were located . Originally the park was conceived as an urban garden and its area was two hectares . In the year 1899 . on the initiative of h enes Society of Fine Arts Lovers Garden was named after the great Russian poet, and here put a bust of Pushkin, which was then changed to a monument .
By the beginning of the 20th century, the summer garden was finally landscaped. An amateur theater opened here, and later even free cinema was open to all comers. The townspeople loved the garden, where they organized frequent events, folk festivities, theatrical performances. It has become among other things a traditional place for school children's promenades.
In 1935 . the republican authorities considered it necessary to remodel a garden in a park: its territory was increased fivefold and planted it with greenery . Over time, the park was enriched with a summer theater, a dance floor, a summer cafe and several auditoriums, as well as a small exhibition area and a new summer cinema . But the positive changes in the park did not stop there: during the 20th century it the area continued to grow, there were cafes and entertainment institutions . By the second half of the last century the park in Saransk was deservedly considered one of the best in the country .
The current territory of the park is about 40 hectares . Recently the park was renovated again with the current trends of modern landscape design . There were new attractions , and on the bank of the river opened a station for the rental of boats and catamarans . Also the system of reservoirs of the park where live ducks live, which the visitors are happy to feed . Also renewed in the park are the city zoo, the Ferris wheel, the monument F . Ushakov, hotel, flower to calendar-calendar and a lively green portrait of Pushkin . On the site of the former bust A . Pushkin was put a new monument, created in 1977 . by sculptor E . Belashova .
