Add a review about Lake Manzherok

Altai Lake Manzherok (Manzhurek) is on the right bank of the Katun River, at a low altitude. It is not too large: about 1100 m in length and not more than 400 m in width. The depth of the lake does not reach 3 m. But at the same time for its pristine beauty Manzherok in 1996 is recognized as a natural monument. In addition, this is one of the very few places in Altai that are suitable for beach holidays. This is the main reason that Manzherok is so popular with tourists.

Once the Manzherok Lake formed a loop in the riverbed, which later turned into an old man. The lake water is not very transparent, but because of the shallow depth it is well warmed up and suitable for bathing. The only negative - most of the shore of the lake is bogged, only a half-kilometer long section remains solid ....

Here you can see a lot of aquatic plants, more than in other Altai lakes: for example, pond or walnut

Here you can see a lot of water plants, more than in other Altaic lakes: for example, pond or walnut. The latter is especially interesting; its other name is chilim or roguel. This walnut resembles a head with horns, and in prehistoric times it was eaten: including grinding cores into flour and baking bread from it. Prehistoric people worshiped chilim and used it to make amulets.

Manzherok Lake and the song "Manzherok"

Manzherok is surrounded by hills covered with coniferous trees, birches and honeysuckle. Along the coast you can see a lot of wild birds, and in the lake not so long ago there were pike, carp and tench in abundance. In the background, you can see Mount Sinuha, where you can ski in winter. In addition, very close to the famous Chui highway, along which several tourist bases are built.

In 1966, on the shores of Lake Manzherok, there was a festival of friendship between Russian and Mongolian youth. Especially for him was written the song "Manzherok" performed by E. Pieha: this song became quite popular.
