At the edge of Ostashkov, surrounded by the transparent waters of Seliger, the Bogoroditsky Zhitenny Monastery modestly retired - an idyllicly beautiful and at the same time austere monastery, an ancient architectural monument and the spiritual center of the Tver Upper Volga . The fate of the monastery, like many others Russian Christian shrines, full of tears of grief and happiness, events of joy and sadness, but having overcome all obstacles, he revived and writes his story further . Today the revived Bogoroditsky Monastery of Life объединя unites the Orthodox Ostashkov and neighboring villages, pilgrims and simple travelers wandering in search of hope, spiritual strength and faith .
The history of the monastery
According to legend, the Holy Monastery was built on March 19, 1716, to reconcile the parishioners of the Troitsk and Resurrection churches who could not share the miraculous icon of Smolensk God her mother. It was believed that the icon patronized Ostashkov and always protected him in difficult times. To dissolve on the Zhitnoy peninsula, they quieted down, built a church where the icon of the MostHoly Mother of God began to be kept.
In time all wooden the monastery buildings were replaced with stone ones, a stone fence was built, and a necropolis was created (up to now it has not survived).
For two centuries, the Ostashkovites cared for the holy monastery and landscaped it until in 1920, with the coming of Soviet power, the monastery was closed and given to the needs of a dairy plant. Such transformations were reflected in the architectural monument in a natural way: the temple premises were rebuilt for workshops, warehouses and offices, most icons and church utensils were irretrievably lost.
The second life at the monastery began on June 17, 2002, this day it became the operating Bogoroditsky female Zhitenniy monastery, and large-scale reconstruction works immediately began, which continue to this day.
