Kalyazin's tour will be incomplete if you do not visit the Ascension Church. It was built in the late 18th century as a cemetery church that belonged to the St. Nicholas Cathedral. Many tourists who visited the flooded belfry of the cathedral note the similarity of these religious buildings.
The Ascension Church has seen much in its time. During the Soviet era, it was closed and used for some time even for the needs of the bakery. On the site of the cemetery a sports stadium was built.
Who knows what would become of the Ascension Church if in the 1990s the building was not reconstructed. Now the Church of the Ascension (other name of the Ascension church) is in operation, worship services are regularly held here.
The modern address where the Ascension church is located (in Kalyazin many streets have former and new names): Engels Street, 1.
By the way, next to the temple is another Kalyazin landmark - a monument in honor of the victory of our troops over the Polish-Lithuanian invaders in 1609.
