Pudozh is the most exotic part of Karelia, here are located most of the ancient rock carvings. What to see
Numerous "Onega" petroglyphs are rock paintings of the Neolithic and Bronze Age (about 800 near the mouth of Vodla and on the capes of Onega Lake). Near Pudozh petroglyphs are most interesting on the rocks of Besov Nos (there is a famous anthropomorphic image called "demon" here), capes Kladovets, Gagazhy, Peri Nos (seven disparate groups), Karetsky Nos (conglomeration of 120 figures) and Gury Island. @
Petroglyphs on the peninsula of Kochkovnavolok, near the village of Shalsky, are interesting. They were discovered in 1970-1990-ies. and number about 200 knockouts, including a three-meter swan, various complex scenes of mythological character with people, birds, boats.
Pudozh Museum of History and Local History, created from a personal collection of objects of museum significance (about 7 thousand), collected by the teacher of history and geography, local historian AF Korablev (1906-1981 gg.) Muromsky Monastery
The Muromsky Monastery of the 14th century is located on the eastern shore of Lake Onega , on a narrow strip of land about a kilometer wide, between two lakes - Onega and Murom.
By the end of the 20th century. white-stone walls of the Assumption Cathedral, the skeleton of the Church of All Saints, the destroyed brotherly building were preserved. Currently restored: the fraternal building, which housed the winter church of St. Nicholas, refectory, cells. The protective chapel over the Lazarevskaya church was rebuilt in a summer temple, the bell tower was restored. As before, the monastery is a place of strict secluded life.
You can get there from Pudoz by car to the village. Gakugsa (30 km), there it is necessary to negotiate with local residents, who on motor boats or on snowmobiles (in winter) transport pilgrims to the monastery. The journey takes 1, 5-2 hours.
