Kronstadt (originally Kronshlot) is the most remote and unusual of the seven suburbs of St. Petersburg. Located on the island of Kotlin in the Gulf of Finland, the city throughout its history served as the sea shield of St. Petersburg and the capital of the Baltic Fleet of Russia.
The name "Kronstadt" means in translation from German "City-Venetz", Kronslot - "Fortress-Crown" "

How to get to Kronstadt
There are shuttle buses and bus number 510 from St. Petersburg from the metro station Staraya Derevnya. You can get there by meteor from St. Petersburg or Lomonosov in the summer, but it's quite expensive.

Entertainment, excursions and attractions Kronstadt
An interesting landmark of Kronstadt is the ancient the Gostiny Dvor building (1832). The narrow Obvodny Canal begins almost immediately after it, and for a few hundred meters there are huge port warehouses (food stores), perhaps one of the most interesting industrial facilities in Russia.
The grandiose Nikolsky Naval Cathedral, erected in a pseudo-Byzantine style in 1903, 1915 (the height of the dome is 70 meters, second only to Isaac.)
Dam structures are interesting and unusual, and in fact almost every Russian is familiar (here was shot the popular in the early 1990's clip "Clouds" group "Ivanushki International). Along the dam there are old forts available to motorists, a good place for tourists, fishermen, and simply lovers of sunbathing on clean sand and clean water.
In windy weather, the contrast between the raging waves of the Gulf of Finland and the calm waters of the Neva bay is impressive."Green Guy" in Tuapse - from 1 800 rubles per day!

Gulf of Finland Forts
In fact, the most interesting landmark of Kronstadt is a chain of sea forts, a 40-kilometer-long arc crossing the Gulf of Finland. Now they are in complete disrepair, and only in the most spectacular of which are held in the summer party or championship paintball
Northern Forts -. The least impressive, are nothing more than the islands with some concrete buildings and wells. In the cellars of the forts in the Soviet era were tested combustibles and explosives, and their consequences ( "icicles" of bricks on the ceiling, etc...) Can be seen to this day
Fort Constantine -. The only fort on the island of Kotlin in western part. It is a complex, highly elongated concrete structure with gun nests. All metal out of the fort, as usual, been stolen, but now there is a project to create here a museum and entertainment center
Fort Kronshloss (Kronshlot.) - a small one-storey fort is almost opposite the port of Kronstadt. It is the oldest of the forts of Kronstadt, founded by Peter the Great, and, unlike the others, it can be seen at close range in any season
Fort Alexander I -. The most beautiful and powerful fort Kronstadt . On the roof you can see a small booth: it is nothing but a plague laboratory . This fort was in the beginning of the 20th century the first Russian research institute where, due to the complete isolation of the fort from the outside world, vaccines were sought for various diseases, including plague . Therefore this fort received the nickname "Plague" . From the Kronstadt here went the paroch Dick "microbe", as the inhabitants of the city closed the windows, when the wind blew from the fort . Now Fort Alexander I abandoned, and only occasionally is tripled "Freaky party", but diggers have twice found in the dungeons of the fort strange ampoules .
