A small cozy village Akulova Gora, standing on the high bank of the picturesque river Oyat, as if remained for several centuries in the past. Almost from anywhere in a small village you can see the wooden church of Basil the Great. The temple was built in the traditions of northern wooden architecture, but more recently - in the early 2000s. True, immediately understand that this new church is unlikely to work, so well preserved architectural traditions. The temple was built by artists Irina and Yuri Hretsky, they also decorated the interior of the church.
Vasily Dmitrievich has always retained his love for the ancestral nest. He often came here during his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts and later, after growing up, and becoming an eminent master. Many of Polenov's canvases were created here, in Imochentsi, for example, "Oka River" and "Vanka from Akulova Gora". Near the temple there is a cedar grove planted by the artist with his own hands
How to get there
The distance from St. Petersburg to Akulova Gora is about 220 km. You need to go along the highway "Kola / M18", then turn right on the signs of Art. Oyat / Introduced-Oyatsky Convent / Alekhovschina. The journey will take about 3 hours. By train to the station. "Lodeynoye Pole", then by bus.
