Add a review about the Oslo National Gallery

Oslo National Gallery is one of the most extensive, interesting and beloved by tourists museums in the Norwegian capital. Within its walls is the largest collection of Norwegian art in the country, from the era of Romanticism to the 50s of the 20th century. Not without the canvasses of "neighbors" - in the halls of the gallery you can admire the canvases of Gauguin, Picasso, El Greco and the Impressionists. But most of the visitors are first of all going to the famous and controversial masterpiece of the Norwegian national painter Edvard Munch "Scream."

A bit of history

The National Gallery of Oslo (or rather, the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design - this is its full name) was founded in 1837 with the aim of preserving the cultural heritage of the country . In 2003 the present museum was formed by merging several collections representing exhibits of painting, sculpture and applied art . However, to this day Instead of a cumbersome name, Norwegians prefer to call a meeting simply a national gallery . Nevertheless, when you come to the National Gallery of Oslo, do not forget: it occupies only one building; to visit the other two - the Museum of Applied Arts and the Museum of Modern Art - there is a single ticket .

What to see

From the richest collection of the gallery, first of all, it is worth visiting the collection of the Norwegian painting (after all, Cezanne can be seen in Pushkin, but local artists, many of whom are wonderfully good - only here). The exposition of the Norwegians is on the second floor of the National Gallery, from the entrance to the right.

Do not go past the "Scream" - the National Gallery presents one of several versions of the picture. By the way, it was her virtuoso stolen in 1994. The canvas was found three months after the abduction - officially, thanks to the best minds of the Norwegian investigation, however, they say, the image effect was so intimidating that the attackers preferred to return the picture so as not to confuse the mind.

Having become acquainted with the Norwegian painters, it makes sense to delve into more familiar names - Picasso, Van Gogh, Monet, Renoir, Degas, Matisse, El Greco and Goya are represented in the left wing of the museum. There was also Russian art: a separate gallery room was reserved for Russian medieval icons of the Novgorod school
