On September 29, 2012 the new building of the Museum of Modern Art Astrup-Fernley was opened, which moved to Tjuwholmen - the new district of the city of Oslo. The project was implemented by the local Niels Torp office with the participation of the world-famous architect Renzo Piano. Located in the park along the Oslo promenade, the Museum will present both a permanent collection and temporary exhibitions. Numerous cafes, restaurants and a souvenir shop will also be located here

The building of the new museum, built of wood with a double curved glass roof, has already been recognized as one of the most outstanding museums around the world in terms of architecture. Located on the edge of the fjord, the museum is divided by a natural barrier - water - into two halves and is an impressive architectural addition to the quay of the new Tewolhommen district.

The exhibition is based on the collection of works of postwar art collected by Hans Rasmus Astrup: Francis Bacon, Andy Warhol, Odd Nærdrum

The museum has its own beach for swimming and a sculpture park stretching along the fjord shore. Renzo Piano also developed a lookout tower to provide a magnificent view of Oslo
