The Grand Castle of Gradara always attracted attention with its beauty and strategic position. It was here that the bloody battles and wars between the ruling elites and the Papal State were taking place, legends described in world literature were born, and the greatest works of art were created. Millions of people come here all year round to momentarily immerse themselves in that distant, fascinating and horrible period that we today call the Middle Ages
The main tower of the fortress of Il Mastino was built in 1150 by order of Pietro and Ridolfo De Grypho (De Grifo), descendant of an influential family that conquered many areas of Pesaro
Cuisine
Gradara is located in a territory rich in olive trees, vineyards and culinary traditions. In local taverns and restaurants, as a rule, family, tourists are offered home-made dishes and wines of excellent quality of two regions - Emilia-Romagna and Marche.
The traditional dish of the inhabitants of Gradara has a unique name - "Tagolini with Bomba", which was prepared in poor peasant families of the simplest ingredients. This name comes from the following way of cooking: on a small amount of butter, onions and bacon (lard) are roasted. At the same time, thalolini is cooked in salted water (the dough should not contain eggs, only water and flour). After 5-7 minutes, drain very little water, leaving a larger part of the water in a saucepan. Pasta with water pour into a pan with fried bacon and onions. Add a little pepper. The water that has fallen on the hot oil causes the effect of a large amount of steam. And for this reason the dish is called "Tagliolini with a Bomb."
And that medieval feasts are not forgotten, the events dedicated to Medieval cuisine are organized several times a year, where local restaurants turn into taverns of the 15th century. Truly a real step into the past!

Entrance to the castle of Gradara: Mon from 08:30 to 13:00, Tues-Sun from 08:30 to 18:30.
Excursions for families and small groups "History Paolo and Francesca.
