The Dresden Zoological Museum (German: Staatliches Museum fur Tierkunde Dresden) is considered one of the largest and oldest natural history museums in Europe. The basis of his collection are the exhibits of the Kunstkammer of the Saxon Elector Augustus, and the most ancient exhibits date back to 1587. The museum, opened in 1728 by the order of Augustus Strong, contains more than 6 million zoological preparations and holds the largest collection of 30 thousand bird eggs of the German ornithologist Wolfgang Makach and the collection of palearctic butterflies of entomologist Otto Staudinger
