Shanghai City History Museum, created in 1983 at the foot of the "Eastern Pearl" tower, is an amazing, wonderful and, according to tourists, the most interesting in the city. First it was called the show-room of Shanghai history and cultural relics, and in 1991 it received a new name, as it is called to this day.
In the museum fund - more than 30 thousand exhibits, including ancient Chinese relics and more 18,000 modern specimens that have survived since post-colonial times
The exposition in the museum is built as if visitors are on the streets of Shanghai, watching various scenes from the city life of the period from 1860 to 1949, voiced and even supplemented by special smells. In some halls, streets and houses are shown in natural sizes, and realistic wax figures, ancient people, retro cars, rickshaws and much more enhance this stunning impression of presence. Many exposition sites are interactive. Everything here is bright and imaginative, and, most importantly, visually.
The scale of the exposition is impressive. Walking along the "Old Shanghai" of the museum, you can glance at the fortuneteller, in the shops or workshops, in the tavern, in the pharmacy, just walk through the city, see it from different angles. Attention to the recreated details and trifles in the museum is amazing. You will see with your own eyes the life of the Shanghai people, whose opium land was famous for silk production, fish trade, tea, together with civilians will fight off Japanese pirates.
The museum can get acquainted with various transport of Shanghai: ancient trams with sitting or standing in them wax figures of full size, rickshaws, jeep of the American army and old notable cars.
To walk through all the halls of the museum and get acquainted with their exhibits, it will take at least an hour, and if we look more carefully and in detail, and even more so. Information is provided in Chinese and English. You can take an audio guide. Going to the Museum of Shanghai's urban history will be unforgettable for any person, regardless of age.
