The exposition in the museum is built as if visitors are on the streets of Shanghai, watching various scenes from the city life of the period from 1860 to 1949, voiced and even supplemented by special smells. In some halls, streets and houses are shown in natural sizes, and realistic wax figures, ancient people, retro cars, rickshaws and much more enhance this stunning impression of presence. Many exposition sites are interactive. Everything here is bright and imaginative, and, most importantly, visually.

Walking along the "Old Shanghai" of the museum, you can glance at the fortuneteller, in the shops or workshops, in the tavern, in the pharmacy, just walk through the city, see it from different angles. Attention to the recreated details and trifles in the museum is amazing. You will see with your own eyes the life of the Shanghai people, whose opium land was famous for silk production, fish trade, tea, together with civilians will fight off Japanese pirates.

Here you can see scenes from the life of fishermen, farmers, stock exchange, courtyards, tea houses , even the scene of the execution of the criminal, the diorama of the river, some interesting historical relics in photographs, paintings of artists, in films.
