The untamed slopes of the Sarykamysh are ideal for resting with children and for those tourists who for the first time have decided to experience for themselves all the joy of skiing. The season here continues from the middle of October to the middle of April, but taking into account the absolutely incomprehensible climatic changes, it is recommended to recommend it from the middle of December to the middle of March, otherwise there is a high probability that tourists will see blooming tulips rather than threatening snow tops.
Sarykamysh is the longest skiing track in the whole of Turkey with a length of 6 kilometers

How to get here
The resort is located in the north-east of Turkey, 53 km from the city of Kars, and 150 km from Erzurum. It is to these cities that it's easiest to fly with a dock in Istanbul to get to Sarikamish. Istanbul operates flights of many air carriers, both regular and charter flights. And in Kars and Erzurum from Istanbul, the Turkish airline "Onur Air" operates. All three airports arrange transfers to Sarykamysh.
In case of a trip to Sarykamysh by car from Istanbul airport, two days should be put on the road. The route passes through Ankara on the O4 motorway, from which you should take the highway D-200 and take east towards the city of Altkoy. Then drive to the D-100 and D-080 and continue towards Sarykamysh.
Sarykamish trains run from Istanbul with stops in Ankara, Sivas and Erzurum. Despite the fact that traveling by bus or train is one of the most economical ways, at the same time such trips are not very convenient and take a lot of time.

Sarykamysh Trails
There are two lines of chairlifts and one lift in the resort. The first stage of the lift starts from a mark of 1700 meters and leads to a height of 2300 meters above sea level, the second stage starts from a mark of 2300 meters and delivers tourists to a height of 2,634 meters above sea level. Trails descending down from the first lift are more suitable for beginners. The routes are higher - for the more experienced ones.
The main trails at the resort are 9, three of them are blue, three are red and three are black (but, of course, compare them, say, with the "black" Austrian routes - great stupidity). The total length of descents is 25 km, the longest of which reaches 6 km. Five trails descend from the very top to the second stage of the ski lift (2300 m) and two routes - from the second turn down to the first stage of the lift (1700 m). In addition, two more trails lead down from the very top.
Entertainment, excursions and sights of Sarykamysh
In the Kars region, to which Sarykamysh belongs in its administrative location, there are no alternative ski resorts. Those who are interested in places of interest are a direct road to the nearby town of Kars, where ancient churches, mosques and palaces are preserved, among which the impressive Seljuk fortress of the 12th century dominates.
Ruins of Ani
Interest represent the ruins of the ancient city of Ani, the former capital of the Armenian Ani kingdom and known as the city of 1001 churches . Ani has preserved the remains of medieval city walls, the Seljuk Palace, several Armenian churches of the 11-13 centuries . At present, Ani is a dilapidated and desolate medieval the city located on the very border with Armenia . Moreover, Ani was thrice brought by the World Monument Fund to the list of objects threatened with destruction - in 1996, 1998 and 2000 . And only in May 2011, the Monuments Fund in partnership with the Turkish Ministry of Culture announced the beginning of work on the preservation of the cathedral and the church of Christ the Savior, located in Ani .
Once there were various trade routes through Ani - the city was full of religious buildings, palaces and fortifications and was considered one of the most difficult "Structures" in the world . The population of Ani in the heyday of the city was about 100-200 thousand people, and he boldly competed with Constantinople, Baghdad and Cairo .In the course of time, Ani, which is famous for its splendor in remote times, was abandoned and forgotten . It is interesting that even the ruined city caused controversies that have not ceased so far . In 1921 most of the territory of the ancient city was transferred to Turkey @ .@@ Now Ani is a ghost town, uninhabited for three centuries already.
Disregard for holy places, earthquakes, cultural cleansing, vandalism, amateur excavations and restoration - all this and many other things had a devastating effect on the architectural appearance of the city.
Almost all Ani constructions were built using local volcanic Basalt - a kind of tuff of the brightest colors. Of the main attractions of Ani can be identified cathedral, the Church of Christ the Savior; Gagikashen church 1001-1005, the church of the Holy Apostles and the most well-preserved church of St. George, built in 1215 by the order of a rich Armenian merchant.
Since 2004, restrictions imposed on visiting Ani have been removed. It is currently allowed to take photographs, and you can visit the sights yourself both independently and by ordering a tour at a local agency in Kars. Photo of Sarykamysh (1)
