Add a review of the Principal Theater in Barcelona

As the name implies, Teatre Principal Barcelona is the main stage site of the city. The name is translated simply - the Main Theater or, as an option, the Leading Theater or even the Home Theater. But in the old days it was called much more splendidly - Teatre de la Santa Creu, that is, the Theater of the Holy Cross.

The name was not surprising - it was quite common for that era: the theater was opened in 1603. It is the oldest theater in Barcelona and one of the oldest theaters in Spain. The name he received because of the location: it was built on a plot of land, donated to the theater in 1597, located next door to the Hospital of the Holy Cross. The hospital did not want to keep the buildings on this site any more, so he gave it up.

The construction site was immediately started on the donated site, the theater was built, and since then it has never changed its location. All stages of its existence are here.

Come here to see some nice little concert (for example, Spanish music or classics) in a beautiful old hall.

The original design was built of wood, and only in the middle of the 18th century century it was rebuilt in stone. But the building that we see now is not quite it: the theater was burned and restored many times, the last reconstruction took place in the beginning of the 20th century

Theater

There are 7 halls on 2 floors in the theater. The most interesting of them are those that retained the shape of the halls of the 16th century - with open space in the center, and the most famous of them is El Teatro Latino. This is unusual and interesting looks, especially since they are decorated appropriately. All the halls are not very large.

Once this theater was very famous, it was the best in the city for a long time, it was performed by the best opera singers, but then other theaters began to develop and its glory began to wane.

Program

The theater once specialized in opera, but now there are a lot of different concerts: classical music, jazz, a variety of performances - from comic to avant-garde and much more. But it's not enough opera.

Come here to see some nice little concert (for example, Spanish music or classics) in a beautiful old hall - these have not been much preserved. The loudest names should not be counted, but it's still a high level.

Another unique moment - concerts combined with dinner. In the hall set small tables, the concert goes in parallel with the food. This idea is for those viewers who do not mind such a combination, but this is unusual: classical theaters usually do not do so.

Also there are a lot of daytime performances and performances of very short - for an hour, which is also rare for classical theater. The direction is very different, you can choose a show for almost any taste, there is a good Christmas program
Theater and performance Surprised
