Karymsky Volcano (Karymskaya Sopka) - not very high in comparison with other volcanoes of Kamchatka, but one of the most active in the world. During the last century, 20 eruptions of Karymsky were recorded, the last of which began in 1996 and lasted for five years, accompanied by explosions and ash falls. In total, from the moment when the first eruption was noted, the volcano erupted 31 times
If you approach the volcano from the north side, then on the way there is a crest of the caldera ridge. But before the eyes of every traveler who ascends to him, there appears a fascinating picture: at the very bottom of the volcanic hollow, a frozen stream of lava bends the hardened stream of lava, it encircles the cone at the foot and falls down into the precipice. A light cone rises from the dark cover of the solid lava, from which smoke, ash and volcanic bombs run down the walls of the crater, occasionally escaping.
At night, this spectacle becomes a fantastic halo: a flaring glow of red shades rises from the crater, which illuminates the smoke. The ejection of volcanic bombs is accompanied by their radiance and sparks that arise when luminous spheres touch the slopes of the volcano.
The structure of the volcanic cone consists of layers of lava alternating with each other. To make them come to the surface, a very powerful explosion is needed. Quite dense lava flows spread not too far, frozen around the crater surrounded by volcanic bombs, sand and ash. All volcanic eruptions have been explosive over the last hundred years, and during what happened in 1962-1965, everything thundered and rumbled for several days.
Karymsky volcano is very active today, in 2009, huge pillars of ash and gas rose several times from its depths, the height of which reached 3 km. Karymsky is recognized as one of the most dangerous and most active volcanoes in the Kamchatka Territory, seismologists constantly study its activity, but the volcano's behavior remains unpredictable.
The Karymsky group of 9 centers, which includes the Karymsky volcano, covers an area of more than 1000 sq. Km. km and is located in the central part of the Eastern volcanic belt of Kamchatka, 30 km from the coast of the Pacific Ocean. At the foot of the volcano there is the Karymskoye lake, here the Karymskaya river flows, and on its right bank there is a volcanological station that is still working - here scientific observations are carried out on the activity of active volcanoes.
