This is one of the oldest museums in Surgut: it was opened in 1963 . and occupied the originally wooden building of a merchant's manor built at the end of the 19th century . In 1999 the . museum moved in a new beautiful building, taking two of its floors out of three . On the first floor there was opened the cultural and communication center, where there is a large exposition of the history of industrialization of Surgut, as well as the Internet hall . The exposition of this part of the museum looks very modern, first-class exhibition equipment . H the second floor is more modest, mostly temporary exhibitions devoted to the life and way of life of the peoples of the North, the history and culture of the region, and the surrounding nature are also held . Also on the second floor is the Children's Drawing Room with a playground for educational games .

The Local Lore Museum owns three more architectural and cultural objects in the city: the Klepikov Estate, the Salmanov Memorial House of Scientists and the Patriotic Heritage Center.

In museum funds, more than 70 thousand exhibits were collected. The most interesting of them are related to the ethnography of indigenous peoples.

The house of the merchant Klepikov is unique in that he is the only one of the entire construction of the boundary of the 19-20 centuries in Surgut preserved in its original place. The estate looks quite mysterious surrounded by modern buildings. Originally it was the local history museum itself. In 1999 the house was restored and five years later it was opened as a separate exhibit. Inside you can see restored interiors and household items - more than half a thousand exhibits.

At Klepikov's estate, a themed photo studio is open where visitors can get an old-fashioned black and white "yellowed" photo in historical costumes against the background of typical old-style interior design. @

Salmanov's house was opened in 2007. It was named in honor of one of the discoverers of oil in Surgut and was brought in a rolled-up form from the village of Ivanovka (Kemerovo region) in 1957. It tried to recreate the atmosphere of the 1960s. Inside the building, exhibitions and events are organized.

The Patriotic Heritage Center was also opened in 2007. Exhibitions and events related to the military history and the history of socialist time are held here
