This complex is located in the center of Surgut, on the shore of Saimaa. To the historical and ethnographic center is the territory on which 14 houses are built, copying historical wooden city buildings. Once these houses were in different parts of Surgut, and today they can be used to conclude what the city looked like by the beginning of the 20th century.
The center opened in 1999. The center includes the Nature House, the Journalists' House, the House of Indigenous People peoples of the North, House of Cossacks, House of Local History, Center of Crafts and School-Museum named after AS Znamensky. Also on the territory of the complex you can see a wooden church in the name of all the saints in the Siberian land. In each of these buildings you can go to examine it from the inside. Regularly on the territory of the center are holidays, training events, fairs, workshops and exhibitions.
The beautiful temple of all the saints is the most notable construction of the complex . It was created in 2001 . and reflects the traditions of the primordial northern Russian church architecture . The Craft Center is much less presentable outside: it is a simple two-story building, the only one in the city . But inside there are art workshops, according to traditions, including the indigenous peoples of the North . On the first floor there is a weaving workshop "Makosh", where you can see for yourselves how decorative and applied art objects are created: in particular, how to weave in different old technologies - on the plaques, on the hands, on the machine from the beginning of the 20th century . At the house there is a souvenir shop where you can, for example, buy clothes or textiles decorated with original ornaments of Khanty and Mansi . Also souvenir, beaded decorations, charms and accessories from leather and wood . You can also see here a permanent museum exposition . In the House of Crafts there are regular master classes on work with ceramics, weaving, patchwork, embroidery and making traditional dolls .
The House of Indigenous Peoples of the North is also a museum where a permanent exposition "Daily life and traditions of the Ugric peoples" is open . Here you can see a variety of ethnographic artifacts, including objects of decorative and applied art, household utensils, clothes and shoes, toys . In front of the house outside there is a small exhibition simulating a traditional camp, with a plague, a storage room, a bread oven . The nature house is something like a museum of natural history. School-Museum is exactly copying the elementary music school, which worked until the 1990s. in Surgut. The exposition contains photographic materials, old textbooks, instruments from the physical laboratory, a school uniform.
The journalists' house is a kind of cultural center of Surgut, where not only journalists but also representatives of other creative professions gather. There, on an ongoing basis, exhibitions of paintings, photographs and objects of arts and crafts are organized. Also there are events: conferences, seminars, lectures and art readings.
The house of the regional specialist is dedicated to those people who made the most significant contribution to the study of the history of the region. On the exposition of the "Local History of Surgut" you can get acquainted with historical personalities, their documents, books, photos.
Center "Old Surgut" offers its visitors, adults and children, many opportunities for both serious study of the city, and just for fun. Here you can, for example, take a picture in a national costume, go skating or play chess. Children can jump on the trampoline, ride an electric car, visit the master classes. There is a cafe of traditional cuisine on the territory. Also, the employees of the center conduct private tours around the city.
