The most ancient monument of architecture of Old Russa is the Spassky Cathedral of the Transfiguration Monastery. The monastery itself was founded in 1192 near the right bank of the Polisti River. The complex of monastic buildings was formed by the 17th century. Currently, all the buildings of the monastery are restored, in the cathedral you can see fragments of frescoes from the 15th and 17th centuries, and the exposition of the Old Russian Museum of Local History is housed in the premises of the monastery.
