You can get to Vereya by car on Mozhaysk or Kievskoye Highway, following the signs and public transport, in particular from the Belorussky railway station, an electric train to the Dorokhovo station follows, from where you can get to the city by a public bus or you can immediately take a direct bus that leaves from Tushinskaya station in Moscow.
A bit of history
It is considered , that Vereya was founded in the 12th century, but the first written mention of it appeared a hundred years after that. Initially, these were kind of impregnable gates, which, among nearby villages, were called upon to stop enemy raids on Moscow.
At one time here was built the Kremlin with high earthen ramparts and defensive wooden walls. The city reflected the attacks of Polish and Lithuanian princes, more than once could resist the onslaught of the Tatar-Mongol yoke. And in the 15th century Vereya even became the capital of an independent principality ruled by Prince Michael, a descendant of the famous Moscow prince Dmitry Donskoi

The 18th century can be said to have become "golden" in the history of the city, trade is actively developing, the first well-to-do merchants Vereya who did not spare their money for city improvement . They built not only majestic manors, but also temples, thanks to which at this time there were the largest number of buildings made of stone, compared to all the cities of the Moscow province . @ In addition, there were a lot of artisans in the city . Leather and forged products, fishing nets and other goods were famous throughout the country . Later Vereya lost its trade status, and life here began to flow in a more moderate provinces rhythm .
The development of the city was largely complicated first by the French army in the early 19th century, and a century later by the German invaders, which caused great damage to the city. But still, Vereya managed to preserve its architectural splendor, and today the city attracts hundreds of tourists from all over Russia who would like to see with their own eyes some of the best examples of the architecture of bygone ages.

Entertainment, excursions and attractions Vereya
Today, only a few fragments remain from the Kremlin 13, but they deserve attention, because the ancient fortress was located on the river bank, more precisely, on a small cape, which today simply drowns in the greenery of ancient trees. In addition, the first stone church, the Nativity of Christ Cathedral, was built here, built here on a high hill above the river in the 16th century after a successful campaign to Kazan.
This temple has been repeatedly rebuilt and restored, but this has not lost its original appearance, and today it is the oldest and most popular city landmark, which, moreover, is in an incredibly picturesque place. Moreover, it is in the lower tier of this temple that General Ivan Dorokhov, beloved by the inhabitants of Vereya, was buried for having liberated the city from the French in 1812. There is also a local history museum about the history of the city.
The church of the Entry of the Lord into Jerusalem, dating back to the 17th century, was also raised, it was erected at the Spassky Monastery, abolished in the 18th century .This church has two floors, and behind a seemingly strict facade are hidden incredibly interesting and complex architectural solutions . Rising above the Protva River in the shadow of thick strange groves, the temple is a truly mesmerizing sight . Today it is recognized as an architectural monument 17th century of federal significance . But from the monastery itself there were only a few fragments .
In the city there are also ancient churches of the Epiphany, Elijah the Prophet, Constantine and Helena, and the Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary - Old Believers Vereya. It is also interesting to visit the shopping arcades related to the buildings of the early 19th century, to look at the building in which the uezd school was located in the 18th century or sit in the cafe Borodino, located in the wing of the house where Napoleon had stayed at the time. Or just walk in quiet, thoughtful streets, especially as the city's clear layout only accompanies it. Photo by Vereya (12)
