The D.Mendeleyev Museum-Archive was founded in 1911 in the premises of a university apartment, which in 1866-1890. Dmitri Ivanovich Mendeleyev, professor and head of the chemistry department. The memorial apartment is on the lower floor of the building of the Twelve Colleges, which has been occupied by St. Petersburg State University since 1835.
Interior of the university apartment Mendeleyev was not completely preserved . Only the study of the scientist was reconstructed . To do this, the surviving photographs of his home office were used in the Main Chamber of Weights and Measures . The Cabinet, together with part of the archive and library, was purchased in December in 1911 from his wife Mendeleyev .
