The bunny who escaped from the flood, "sits" like a talisman, near the Ioannovsky Bridge leading to the Peter and Paul Fortress. According to legend, during the flood, a small bunny fell into the boot of Tsar Peter and thus was saved. Thanks to this heroic hare, the island on which stands the Peter and Paul Fortress is called Zayachiy.
The monument was unveiled on May 7, 2003, simultaneously with the commissioning after the restoration of the Ioannovsky Bridge. Since then, the bunny and the bridge are inextricably linked and the small sculpture is considered to be the mascot of the bridge.
The log base on which the hare sits invariably attracts tourists to compete in accuracy.
The coins that fly to the hare (and mostly fall into the water) for a long time covered the entire bottom of the Kronverksky canal with an equal layer.
Bunny liked the townspeople and tourists so much that a lot of fascination with the installation of all kinds of amusing sculptures began. So, that this hare can be considered the legitimate progenitor of a new architectural epoch in St. Petersburg.
