Add a review about the source of the Monk Savva Storozhevsky

The Monk Savva Storozhevsky, the most revered, respected and well-known disciple of Sergius of Radonezh, dedicated a greater portion of his life to serving in the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, was elected confessor of the Trinity Brotherhood, and in 1392, after the death of Sergius, Sawa for a short time served as the hegumen of the monastery. In Sergiev Posad, beyond the northern wall of the monastery, on the slope of the mountain in memory of Sawa the Monk there is a landmark - the source of Savva Storozhevsky.

Inok Sawa was always distinguished by wisdom and love of God. From a young age he hated the world and loved Christ, zealously struggled with passions and strove for virtue. Entering the church before all others and going out last, in a kindly tender emotion, he cried and sobbed during the divine service. The priests, seeing such sobs and tenderness, marveled and glorified the benefactor of God. Arriving at St. Sergius of Radonezh, Savva took tonsure from him.

In the legend it is said that the holy spring of Savva Storozhevsky was extracted by the Monk Savva from the depths of the earth 150 meters from the monastery walls by prayer at the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, and it is 700 meters from the central entrance of the laurel, on the right bank of the creek.

The virtuous Savva Storozhevsky earned himself respect and fame from the princes. Great-Russian Prince George (Yuri) Dmitrievich begged the blessed Savva to create in his patrimony a convenient place abode. With the blessing of the monk, the Savvino-Storozhevsky monastery was founded in Zvenigorod, but Savva moved there only in 1398 and lives until his death (1407).

While living in the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, Savva prayed a lot, and as a result of his prayers the river Konchur, according to legend, there was a holy spring, behind the northern wall of the monastery and behind a ravine stretching around the whole laurel and together with a monastery wall protecting the monastery from attacks.

In 1821, at the site of today's Krasnogorskaya area, a part of the moat at the eastern wall fell asleep, and in 1836 - the remaining part of the ravine fell asleep.

So, the legend says that the holy source of Savva Storozhevsky was extracted by the Monk Savva from the depths of the earth in 150 m from the monastery walls by prayer at the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, and it is located 700 m from the central entrance of the Lavra, on the right bank of the creek. Many believing pilgrims come here for holy water to pray in the wooden chapel set in the nineties of the last century in this place and plunge into the equipped font, divided into male and female, with large dressing rooms.

Before the chapel there is a stall where they sell towels and shirts (from 250 RUB) for a bath in the spring. A container for water needs to be brought with you. The bath, which closes from the inside, usually forms a queue at any time of the year. The spring water flows through the metal pipes to the stream where it can be recycled.

How to get to the source of the Monk Savva Storozhevsky

After leaving the Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra, go along the wall to the left to the Duck Tower, then to the Bell tower and another hundred meters to the gateway of the Kalichya Tower. Jump the brook over the bridge and go left along the dirt track to the place with a pointer to the source.
