The most famous Pereslavl monastery - Goritsky - is worth a visit. Almost all the surviving structures date back to the 17th and 19th centuries. The main temple of the monastery is the elegant Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin. Its magnificent multi-tier iconostasis was created in the 1750s. Across the road from Goritsky, almost at the exit from the city in the direction of Moscow is the Fedorovsky Monastery. The oldest of its buildings is the Cathedral of St. Fedorov (1562), set in honor of the birth of Ivan the Terrible's son, named Fedor.
History
Goritsky Assumption Monastery was founded in the first half of the 14th century under Ivan Kalita . His most famous name was from the location on the hill - "Goritsa" . From the Ancient wooden structures nothing survived . In 1382 g . the army of Tokhtamysh was destroyed by Pereyaslavl-Zalessky, and along with it Goritsky monastery . Shortly before the ruin, Grand Duchess Evdokia came here on a pilgrimage, wife of Dmitry Donskoy . She and a few more people miraculously survived from the Tatars, on a raft in the middle of the lake Pleshcheeva and hiding behind thick fog .

The gates
The eastern or the gateways (the middle or the second half of the 17th century) are small in size, but due to the rich decor and rich play of light and shade, they stand out against the calm surface of the walls, almost devoid of decoration . The ward of the doorkeeper, in spite of his modest designation, has two front, very magnificent facades, which are not inferior in elegance to many metropolitan, hierarchical and prince's houses of that time. Complex shapes, trimmed curbs, balusters, semicolumns and other architectural details decorate most of the walls.
Refectory Chamber
Only the west facade gives some idea of the last appearance of the building . Belfry A small belfry visually divides the northern wall of the monastery into two parts. At present it serves as a viewing platform, from here an amazing view of the old town and Lake Pleshcheyevo opens.

Useful information
In winter, the Assumption Cathedral is closed for inspection with a view to preserving the interiors; there is no entrance or bell tower in the winter.
