The remarkable Oslo Museum of Applied Art and Design is the first and one of the most significant collections of household items in Europe. Founded in 1876, the museum now has more than 35,000 artifacts, from Greek amphoras to jewelry from Southeast Asia. And also here is the famous carpet of Baldisol - one of the oldest knotted carpets in the world (12th c) and a remarkable collection of Norwegian glass and faience.

Permanent exhibitions of the Oslo Museum of Applied Art.
First name is "Style 1100-1905" and introduces visitors to the history of European styles of fine art in general and Norwegian in particular. The presented exhibits are textiles, silver and glassware, ceramics and furniture from the Middle Ages until 1905.
The exhibition "Design and Art 1905-2005" presents interior and design solutions in the styles of proto-modernism, art deco, pop and postmodernism , and also Scandinavian design.
The third and fantastically interesting part of the permanent collection of the museum is devoted to the history of the costume: here you can see a collection of clothes belonging to the royal family, admire the urban fashion of the 17-20th centuries and get a presentation on the creativity of Norwegian fashion designers 2000-2008
In addition, the museum exhibits a rich collection of glassware from the Norwegian manufactory of Nostetangen and the famous ceramics of Herreboy, as well as regularly hosts interesting temporary exhibitions.
