There are always a lot of tourists near this arch - this is a famous landmark of Rimini. Moreover, it is the most ancient Italian arch, it is more than two thousand years old. It appeared after the construction of the road between the Adriatic coast and Rome.
There was even an inscription in the upper part of the arch that the Senate and the Roman people devote this building to the emperor Caesar Octavian in cases of restoration of the road. As the main decoration, the sculptural quadriga was used - the horses that the emperor controlled.
Today this arch is a beautiful sight, and previously played an important role: it was the southern city gate in the fortress walls. By the way, the gate frames are still preserved to this day: they are not far from the arch, in the Alcide Cervi park.
And on the facades of the building you can see relief medallions with images of four gods - Zeus, Apollo, Neptune and Minerva. By the way, eventually the horses and the emperor were removed, and in their place they put a jagged pommel. It turned out to be modest and tasteful.
