Theater des Champs Elysées, despite its name, is not on the Champs Elysees, but on the avenue of Montaigne. The building of the theater was built in 1913 by Perre brothers. As architects professed the modern "reinforced" style, there was a need to mitigate this architectural solution, and this was achieved by the bas-reliefs of Bourdelle on the facade of the building.
Burdel revet the theater building with a beautiful marble that hides the concrete coldness. The simplicity of the lines shocked the audience, accustomed to the excesses and pretentious forms of the old architecture. The task set by the architect brothers was solved, they really created a work of "common sense and good taste."
Artists Denis, Vuair and Roussel originally and consistently designed the theater from the inside. Some consider the building of the Champs-Elysees Theater one of the most beautiful buildings in Paris. But, even without using superlatives, we must admit that it is an adornment of the city. The theater consists of three rooms: the Theater of Champs Elysees, designed for 2000 seats, the Champs-Elysées Comedy, which can accommodate 676 spectators and the Champs-Elysees Studios, which can seat 256 people.
The initiator of the theater was the entrepreneur G. Astryuk, who succeeded interest in their idea of many famous artists, representatives of the nobility, large financiers. The Board of Trustees, created by Astrjuk, included composers K. Saint-Saens, R. Strauss, conductor A. Nikish and others. According to his plan, the Theater of the Champs Elysees was to become an international center of musical culture, a place for festivals.
Subsequently, conductors such as Saint-Saens, K. Debussy, P. Duke, A. Toscanini, F. Weingartner, R. Strauss, I. Paderewski, S. Rachmaninov, singers FI Shalyapin, M. N. Kuznetsova, M. Barrientos. Pavlov and Trukhanov were danced, as well as a Russian ballet troupe led by S. P. Diaghilev (the so-called "Russian Seasons"), which included VF Nijinsky, TP Karsavina, MM Fokin.
In 1920-1924 at the head of the Theater of the Champs Elysees there was a theatrical figure F . Eberto, who invited the actor and director G . Pitoyev and his wife, actress L . Pitoyev for cooperation . They staged performances "Eater of Dreams" Lenorman, "The one who gets slapped" L . Andreeva, "Six characters in search of the author" Pirandello . In 1922, the famous in France Louis Jouvet (1887-1953), actor, director and technical director joined the Eberto troupe, , who headed the theater from 1924 to 1934 . Zhuwe delivered plays M . Ashara, Zh . Romena, Zh . Zhirod which became significant events in the theatrical life of Paris . This was the "star hour" of the theater . After the departure of Zhuwe, no one was late there, and gradually the troupe disintegrated, it turned into a theater of experiments .
